What to Expect
In our first few sessions, I will take time to get to know you. I like to understand you outside of the problem that brings you in for therapy. I will ask you a lot of questions but you will always have control over how much and when you want to share. Following this intake process, we will develop some goals that are authentic to your life and your vision for therapy. Once we have goals established, I like to make sure that sessions carry a balance between exploration of thoughts, emotions and history while also providing tools that you can start using immediately.

I believe in helping you find you, the real you, not the you that is controlled by “shoulds,” “have tos,” and “what will so-and-so think.” Our lives are conditioned by those around us but we do have a choice. I’m here to help you see that choice, use skills to deal with the coping patterns that keep us stuck, set boundaries and put your needs first. Instead of helping you to fit into the world, I help you create a place for yourself as you truly are in the world. I believe our world is better with you being YOU in it.
My therapy approach focuses on the language and stories we tell ourselves and others. I believe that words are powerful in healing. I also focus on how past and current family systems have impacted you. This helps provide clarity to why we do the things we do. Finally, I integrate solution focused changes and skill building into each session. I collaborate with my clients around therapy goals and how we meet those goals.
I am committed to your treatment. My work for you and your mental health doesn’t end when our session ends. I continue to work far beyond the time we meet to research, treatment plan and prepare. I expect the same level of commitment from my clients. Typically, we will meet an hour a week. The change happens in all the time between sessions. My hope for my clients is to take the insight, skills and clarity from our sessions and cultivate lasting change in daily life.

A word on trauma: A traumatic event can be big or small, repetitive or a single occurrence. A traumatic event leaves a lasting impact on us. Often we can recognize these events but sometimes we can’t. Sometimes these events are insidious and become a part of our narrative about ourselves. These events can poison our self-worth. Sometimes this happens before we are even conscious of it when we are at our most vulnerable, as children. As a trauma-informed therapist, I will honor the impact of these events, provide you with compassionate insight into the effects of trauma, and create a safe place for you to, at your own pace, explore these stories.

Why Teletherapy?
In a world revolving around technology, it might feel daunting to commit to teletherapy. I believe in maximizing the benefits of teletherapy while also focusing on creating a warm, inviting, and supportive atmosphere that feels as close to being in person as possible. Teletherapy provides flexibility for both my clients and myself. This gives us the opportunity to stretch beyond the norm. Stretching beyond the norm is a prevalent theme throughout my therapy practice. With our world always moving faster, I believe that the intentional use of teletherapy can help my clients use that time spent commuting to an office and waiting in a waiting room for something more meaningful. The keyword here is intentional. The power of intentionality drives my practice from both the clinical standpoint and my reasoning behind practicing 100% online. Therapy can be, especially in the beginning, nerve-wracking. With the opportunity to meet from the comfort of your own home, we can mitigate some of the nerves of coming to the session. In my teletherapy practice, I integrate the same care, time, and attention as I would if we were face-to-face. We will meet over a HIPAA-compliant platform that provides the security and privacy needed to protect you. I provide supplemental handouts, reading, and media to my clients via my secure portal as well. This allows you to have access at any time because let’s be honest, those paper copies get lost. My goal is to create a balance between the warmth and attunement necessary for a therapeutic relationship with the flexibility of teletherapy. If you’re looking to maximize your growth through teletherapy, you have come to the right place.
I am also a Board Certified-Telemental Health Provider. This certification ensures that I have taken and mastered rigorous training specifically on how to provide mental health treatment using technology. This certification holds providers to higher standards to ensure safety, competence and best practices for clients wishing to work in the virtual space. While this certification is not specifically required for providers, it shows a commitment to telehealth excellence and meeting of important ethical requirements.

Insurance
I have partnered with Aetna, Optum, United Healthcare and UMR. I also can work with you utilizing your Out-Of-Network benefits by providing you with a superbill. You are responsible for paying for your session at the time that services are rendered. If you request a superbill, you can provide it to your insurance provider and see if they will reimburse you through your out-of-network benefits. There is no guarantee that your insurance provider will reimburse you. I highly recommend calling your insurance provider to understand what your out-of-network benefits cover.
No Surprise Act
In light of the No Surprises Act which went into effect in 2022, all health care providers are federally mandated to provide clients who do not use their insurance a Good Faith Estimate.
